Hi! My name is Yaury Jattin. I moved to Miami about 10 years ago from Venezuela to attend Florida International University. While there, I earned my Bachelor's degree in accounting and a Master's degree in tax. After graduating in 2004, I began my career at Kaufman, Rossin & Co. When I first started I was the youngest member of the tax department and now I am a supervisor! My hard work and commitment is surely recognized by the Firm.

My typical day
On a typical day I come in and meet with Mike Custer. He's the leader of our Tax department. We discuss everything on the agenda for the day and then we prioritize. I then know not only what I need to do, but what to delegate to the staff. Later on I follow up with them and make sure they understand their tasks, sometimes this requires helping or training them. Once they complete their projects, I review their work before it is reviewed by Mike.

What I love
The best thing about working for Kaufman Rossin is the people. I have great relationships with everyone I work with. We are able to maintain our role as coworkers and friends by keeping them separate. When you get along with your coworkers it makes it very easy to learn and delegate because there is a certain level of comfort and mutual respect.

The challenges
The biggest challenge I find is time constraints. It can be difficult to make certain deadlines, and I prefer to avoid false senses of urgency for a project, especially when they could have been prevented by proper planning. This challenge is especially tough during tax season as the office gets pretty chaotic, which is expected of a CPA firm. However, the Firm makes up for our hard work with perks such as providing dinner every night, subsidizing massages in our office gym, and of course the overtime pay is great!

How I put it all together
It sounds tough, but I am able to balance my work and personal life. I have a great husband who really helps out a lot with our two kids, Danielle and Sebastian. I'm lucky to have a family that supports and encourages me to achieve my career goals. To really balance things and enjoy myself, I love to go dancing!
